to my future children,

i. When I open my eyes in the morning and close them at night before bed, I’ll be thinking of you.
ii. When you fall down and skin your knee, I will clean it, bandage it, and remind you that only real super heroes fall down and are able to pick themselves back up again. I’ll be proud every time you do.
iii. If you get tired of reading story books, I’ll write new ones for you. I’ll write them about anything you wish and I’ll always make you the main character.
iv. When you come home from school with a bad grade and are afraid to show me, I’ll kiss your cheeks and remind you that your grades aren’t a representative of how brilliant you really are.
v. When you tantrum and yell and push me away, I’ll tell you I’ll love you forever and let you have room to breathe. You’ll come back. I’ll be waiting.
vi. If you come home from school with a bruised heart and heavy thoughts, I’ll ruffle your hair and tell you he or she wasn’t funny and interesting enough for you anyways.
vii. If you ever struggle with your identity, sexuality, or gender, I won’t ever let you feel lost, alone, and scared. I will be there and I will love you, no matter who you want to be today, tomorrow, and forever.
viii. I'll be that cool mom your friends and you wished for.
